Pulled the "study leave" skive to try and get out of work today and tomorrow (thurs/fri) morning and oh yes again it has worked a treat!

And even better, my new 2006 4.5 and 5.2 Rocks should be here by today, since I'd ordered them on Sunday...

Yeah right. Wishful thinking. Next day delivery my arse. Went to Surfladle first thing this morning and the 4.5 wasn't being delivered because suddenly Tushingham had realised they didn't have the colour I wanted; as for the 5.2, it was lost somewhere in deepest darkest courier land. Arse.

So meant I would probably have to use my old sails today which I'd just sold on ebay and needed to post to the buyers...hmmm bit dodgy...especially if I put a big rip in one of them... Anway, got to the beach around 10am and conditions were looking a tad un-inspiring. Drizzly rain, flat, not quite as windy as I'd expected. Ummmed and arrred twix the 5.9 and 5.2, and decided on the 5.9 since I didn't fancy being at all underpowered and moreover I was reluctant to use the 5.2 for the reason described above.

Out on the 5.9 - straight away overpowered. 1 run, back in, more downhaul...still overpowered. Bollox will have to rig the 5.2.

And then I noticed two problems....
1) The starboard harness line velcro thingy had got buggered and said harness line could no longer attach itself to the boom...
2) My harness' right velcro tightening strap was on the brink of ripping clean off said harness.
ARSE.

Spent ages trying to fix the harness line. After a couple of attempts actually managed to bodge it quite well. Fortunately the fecked harness still worked, so was just about all OK...

All this faffing around visiting Surfladle, re-rigging and bodging had eaten in massively to the limited time I had available before I needed to go back to work. So it was a relief that the 45 minutes I did get on the water on the correct sized kit were...well...mighty fine!!! By now the wind was solid 5.2 weather and I was well powered up, planing straight off the beach even with my rig fully downhauled. Shoreham was at what I consider to be its best; low-tide, perfect wind strength, and ramps galore pushing in for some cracking jumping of which I scored plenty. Satisfyingly I was sailing very well, getting good height on my jumps, planing out of the odd gybe, and best of all I kicked my duck-gybe demons out of the closet, pulling off a couple of good ones (the first one was proper good). Only annoying thing was my harness lines never felt like they were at the right length - the bodged starboard one was far too long to start with before I re-bodged it and made it shorter, whereas the port one just always felt too long despite being on it's shortest setting. Hmmmm. Sort of meant I never felt 100% comfortable whilst sailing, which reduced my willingness to really go for stuff, annoyingly since with today's conditions looping should really have been on the agenda. Note to self #1: If conditions same tomorrow no excuses MUST LOOP.

Wind had dropped off a fraction when I had to get off the water at 12.30pm, but was still disappointing not to be able to carry on. Went back to Surfladle and still the 5.2 had not bloody arrived grrrr. Seeing as I had to post my old 4.5, and there was no sign of the 06 Rock 4.5 that I wanted coming for at least a few days, I bought an 05 one instead...not the funky new design but ho-hum will have to do and of course was cheaper. Also purchased - new harness lines and harness... :)

That 45 minutes of "Shoreham at its best" made it another cracking session and so 4 stars again. Just a shame all the kit problems meant I couldn't have made more of it. Muchos muchos wind forecast for tomorrow, so hopefully will be another good morning session, with less faffing and more decent TOW (and LOOPING). Looks like it could be 4.0 weather again - although 4.5 would be nice, so I can use my new sail - as would...5.2 weather! Cos yes just got a call late this evening from Danny that the damn sail has finally arrived! Woohoo!

(Note to self #2: Feck me must stop writing waffly long boring diary entries!)
